Matt Smolen - Creator/Writer/Director
Having spent the majority of his life watching films, it seemed like the next logical step was
to start making some. After founding Balloon Tree Productions in 2006 as a creative outlet,
Matt found himself completing a Bachelor of Film and Digital Media (with Honors) while
also working with a real estate video production company.
Since then, Matt and Balloon Tree Productions have gone from strength to strength - working on everything from training videos, to commercials and even starting a variety of passion projects such as The List (an independent feature film) and the web series Chris & Josh which has recently awarded 'Outstanding Ensemble (Comedy)' at LAWebfest 2013 and 'Melbourne's Best' at Melbourne Web Fest 2013.
Matt Werkmeister - "Josh"
After a handful of amateur theater productions as a child, in 2005 Matthew appeared in the stage production "The Full Monty", which earned him a Music Theatre Guild of Victoria nomination. It was whilst he was appearing in "The Full Monty" that he landed the role of Zeke Kinski in the Australian Television series "Neighbours".
Matthew was on Neighbours for over 5 years, within his time there he became
an ambassador for national youth week and ambassador for missing persons week. Matthew also became apart of several short films including
the critically acclaimed 'Simon'.
While acting in Neighbours, Matthew received two Logie nominations for ‘Most Popular
Actor’ and shortlisted twice for ‘Most Popular Personality on TV’.
After a 2 year hiatus from acting, Mathew was featured in the film ‘Little Love stories’, and also began filming the web series ‘Chris and Josh’, from the creative mind of Matt Smolen and staring the talented Shane Savage. He is currently working on FLY-ON-THE-WALL-THEATRE’s Production of 'The Death of Peter Pan', opening in May 2013.
Shane Savage - "Chris"
Since graduating from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama/Film), Shane went on to study full time at the Howard Fine Acting Studio under tuition from their esteemed L.A based faculty.
Recent film work includes Dean in ‘Nevyr Love a Vampyr’ (Geoffrey Wright), Alex/Ray in ‘Semblance’ (Tom Shanan), Chris in webseries ‘Chris and Josh’ (Matt Smolen/Balloon Tree Productions) and film clips for Kimbra and Vanessa Amorosi.
Recent theatre credits include Jack Novarro in Playing Rock Hudson, Herres in Maurice Guest (both with FLY-ON-THE-WALL Theatre), Dancer/vocalist in numerous variety shows and The Emcee in Cabaret, which earned Shane the theatrepeople.com.au peoples choice award for Best Supporting Actor and allowed him to reprise his role, opening the 2010 Lyrebird Awards ceremony with ‘Wilkommen’.
Whilst studying at Deakin, Shane also ran student theatre company ‘BuST Co’, producing and directing several productions, including the Melbourne International Comedy Festivals sellout season of ‘PUNCHLINE’.
